September CSA = Apples!
This month the weather continued to stay warm throughout the entire month of September. It was like an extended summer, and even though we were all back to school, it was awesome and we enjoyed every minute of it. Bring on the sunshine. ☀️ Warm afternoons, warm weekends, shorts weather, continued flip flop wearing weather, cropped pants, all so much yes! We even made that trip back to Ogunquit for the day the second weekend in September. We sat on the beach and soaked it all up.
The sunshine and warmer weather also allowed for an amazing crop of apples at our farm this year. This was their first season they had apple tress and they hit the jackpot! All month long we got to pick apples with usual weekly pickup. They had quite the variety: Macintosh, Gala, Cortland, Macoun and Honeycrisp. The boys and I enjoyed picking in what felt like summer weather.
In addition to our weekly apple picking, we also got to get into the fields to pick tomatoes and green beans too. Getting into the fields to pick our weekly share is one of our favorite parts of our CSA share. I love teaching the kids about real food, how it grows, where it comes from, and why real food nutrients are important for our bodies.
