Each May, on Mother’s Day weekend, we prepare for garden planting. On Saturday we usually buy the plants, and on Sunday we plant. By this time, the soil has been prepared, there’s usually some rain which allows the soil to come into its own and by mid-May it is usually ready for planting. The weather for Mother’s Day weekend this year was not looking so great, so we went ahead and bought all of our plants on Mother’s Day and then planned to plant later that week. Thank goodness we waited because the temperature dropped to below 50º!
Over the course of 2 late afternoons (and evenings) after that chilly Mother’s Day weekend, Brian planted the garden in its new location. We planted tomatoes, cucumber, spaghetti squash, zucchini, yellow squash, corn, strawberries, basil, and cilantro. The following weekend, everyone helped with the placement of the plants, putting in the tomato cages, bamboo sticks and helping with the fencing too.
Brendan and Braden have their own gardening gloves and love helping Brian!
We are on our way to a fruitful garden (we hope) this year! Time for some growing!!
